Connecting to Wi-Fi with Android using the Particle app

Wi-Fi setup via Particle on Android is now deprecated. Please use the ROEST Wi-Fi Setup app instead, unless you have specifically been directed to this page by the support team.

This is an easy-to-follow guide on how to setting up Wi-Fi using Android. Note that the ROEST Wi-Fi Setup and Particle app is only used to put Wi-Fi credentials on your roaster and not for using the web portal or logging roasts.

If using the ROEST Wi-Fi setup app doesn’t work, you can try to use the Particle app instead.

Instructions

Before connecting to Wi-Fi, the drop handle must be in the open/upward position.

1. Click the timer to open the menu.

2. Select “WIFI SETTINGS”.

3. Tap “ACTIVATE” under WIFI SETUP.

4. Download the app “Particle loT,” open it, and press GET STARTED.

5. You need to create an account. It can be personal (not company).

6. After logging in, you will see the above setup. Tap the + sign.

7. Tap “Set up a Photon.”

8. Tap “READY”.

9. Wait until Photon-XXXXXX appears and select it.

10. Tap “Connect.” Your phone will connect to the Photon.

11. In some cases, you might be asked to change owner. Tap “Change owner.”

12. Select the Wi-Fi you wish to connect your machine to.

13. Insert your Wi-Fi password.

14. After the two first steps, the roaster will restart and connect to your Wi-Fi. When that happens, you can exit Particle (tap cancel), as a bug will make it never actually finish this stage.

14-a. If you don’t cancel this process, this message will eventually turn up. That is okay and will not affect the process.

15. If you insert the wrong password, this message will show up. Switch off and on (restart) your ROEST and start this process again.

Troubleshooting

  • If you enter the wrong password, the roaster will not connect - try again.

  • The roaster cannot connect to Wi-Fi without a password.

  • The roaster can only be connected to password-protected Wi-Fi. Not an open network.

  • The roaster cannot connect to 5Hz networks.

  • “ACTIVATE” button is only enabled when the bean drop handle is in an open/upward position.

  • If the roaster does not respond - restart (switch the roaster off and on).

  • Corporate networks can create problems. Port 9001 and 1883 must be opened.

  • Try to use the ROEST Wi-Fi setup app instead if you are unsuccessful with giving your roaster credentials.

  • If you’re still having problems, check out our troubleshooting guide.
